About

Kihon Press was founded by Joe Maurantonio after twelve years of writing professionally for small newspapers and national magazines. His experience includes writing articles, working with translators, editing magazines, page layout, and publishing newsletters. These lessons led him to create a small publishing company focusing on the Japanese martial arts. In December 1998, Kihon Press joined the publishing world with the international release of the translated book Ninpo: Wisdom for Life by Masaaki Hatsumi. KIHON (Japanese for "foundation") was chosen as our web site and publishing name because it was a good place to begin this adventure.
