Class Focus
We are a Dojo, not a gym or studio. A gym relys on making money from clients that either do NOT attend, are interest in losing weight or building muscle mass. Studios on the other hand focus on the competitive or business aspects of sport martial arts. In our Dojo we emphasize traditional training for real life situations.
Teachers and students exchange mutual bows of respect. This martial art is older than the popular judo, karate, or taekwondo arts, and retains it warrior heritage intact. Our 900 year old traditions are ideal for actual personal defense as they requires no speed or strength, but rely on instinctive and natural movements. In class we focus on these topics:

  • Junan Taiso- conditioning & flexibility exercises
  • Ukemi- breakfalls & rolling
  • San Shin no Kata- solo practice forms
  • Kihon Happo- basic combat lessons
  • Waza- technical skills
  • Kata- advanced fighting scenarios
  • Henka- variations on core techniques
  • Budogu- martial art fighting tools

Movement Defined
Budo Taijutsu (ninjutsu) uses relaxed natural movement and distance to overcome an opponent's speed and strength. Movement is refined for grace and naturalness in all action until power results from mere movement, and evasion from a simple adjustment of position. This training is one of the rare martial arts undiluted by emphasis on sport competition or artificial rules. Our training emphasizes shiken gata - combat survival techniques.

Teaching Difference
Many schools focus on the competitive aspects of sport martial arts. The purpose of this art is to protect the sanctity of life and learning how to overcome that which would seek to harm us. Whether harm originates from a street confrontation or something much more intangable (and difficult to combat) our own ego. This training is very personal.
Our training teaches one to perform automatically to any situation. Without having to think about what technique we are going to use, we can instead fluidly flow from situation to situation doing only that which is required and nothing extraneous.
